A new glass is born

02 October 2019

José Pizarro, the chef in question, with four restaurants and bars in the UK, met Petr Lava, the Creative Director at Moser whilst in London. The conversation was about José’s passion - food and drink.  He began talking about the fortified wine, famed and quality controlled in Spain.  The discussion moved to drinking, glasses and the work of Lava, an innovative designer and glass-master at Moser, the world’s only lead-free ecologically friendly hand-made luxury crystal glass producer.

It isn’t known how much drinking was involved in the debate on why traditional sherry glasses are so small, but the result was an invitation to Karlovy Vary to the Moser Glassworks to work on a new project that would breathe life in to sherry and encourage more enjoyment of the wine.

Fast forward one year from that initial meeting, and using José’s own cupped hands for the volume and shape of the glass,  plus the creation of a hand-blown,  cut and crafted unique piece, the ‘Pizarro’ glass from Moser has arrived.

Speaking of the one-of-a-kind sherry glass José Pizarro commented:

Now there is a revolutionary new glass to really enjoy sherry.  The shape enables the sherry to breathe and for the drinker to really enjoy the aromas of the wine.   The experience with this glass is totally different to drinking from the traditional shape and size.

José and Moser’s new glass has also been endorsed by the Consejo Regulador who control all things Sherry:

We are delighted with this glass designed by José Pizarro and Moser which positions Sherry in the very high standards this wine deserves. We do believe that the drinking experience of Sherry will be enhanced with this special glass and, as the Sherry Regulatory Council, we are happy to endorse it.

Only 300 Pizarro glasses have been produced, all signed by the chef and are now available to purchase online through Moser’s website or via José’s restaurant – Pizarro in Bermondsey, London. RRP £300 for a set of two glasses.

ABOUT MOSER GLASSWORKS
The luxury crystal brand is named after Ludwig Moser, who established his own engraving workshop and glass shop in the centre of Karlovy Vary near the Market Colonnade in March 1857. In less than twenty-four years, he laid the foundations of a unique glassworks where glass-masters and engravers create unique crystal works. Luxury beverage sets, decorative objects and Moser master-engravings are popular items among foreign and local lovers of original crystal works. At home, in the Czech Republic, Moser is perceived as the most luxurious Czech brand.
