Announcing the Finalists of the U.S. National Copa Jerez Competition 2018!

26 November 2018

Copa Jerez is an international competition featuring top chefs and sommeliers from across Europe and North America, in which each team is commissioned with choosing the ultimate matches of Sherry wines with food.  It was created to showcase the incredible diversity of Sherry wine and its remarkable ability to match with food.

The international competition will be held in Spain in 2019 and the finalist competing for the change to represent the US in Spain are:

John Taube and Ryan Bailey, NoMad - Los Angeles, CA
Danielle Ayer and Joy Gerardi, Talulla - Cambridge, MA
Cheryl Wakerhauser, Bar Vivant / Pix Patisserie and Tobias Hogan, EaT Oyster Bar - Portland, OR

The live finals will be held at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York City on December 4th, 2018, from 11am to 4pm.  There, the finalists will present their dishes and pairings to our distinguished panel of judges — Chef Bertrand Bouquin, Culinary Director of The Mountaintop at Desert Mountain Club in Arizona, and 2011 US COPA Jerez Winner, Andy Seymour, BAR Partner and owner of Liquid Production, Inc, Jacques Bezhuidenhout of San Francisco, and winner of the first US Sherry Cocktail Competition, and Steve Olson, BAR Partner, aka maguey geek

If you’re in the city and you’d like to attend, please RSVP to cremmert@liqpro.com. The winning team will be announced that afternoon and will go on to compete in the international finals in Jerez, Spain!
