#SherryEd15 - Becoming a Sherry Educator

23 October 2015

The attendees came from far and wide. From Japan to the USA and from Scandinavia to the British isles with many others in between. The course attracts a wide range of Wine trade professionals; Sommeliers, Wine writers, restauranteurs and academics and places are highly sought after.

The three days provide a real insight into the viticulture and viniculture of the region, along with some unique opportunities to taste some exceptional wines, many direct from the barrel. Highlights included visiting the albariza soils of the vineyards of Macharnudo and tasting every stage of the Sherry wine from free run juice through to sobretabla wines before sampling from each Criadera of the Solera system.

It’s not all fun though, there is blind tasting and theory test at the end of the week, which certainly adds an element of tension to the proceedings! To see more of what went on, search using the hashtag #SherryEd15 on twitter and Instagram.

Every year there are two Certified Sherry Educators courses, one in Spanish in spring, and the other in English in Autumn.  The course offers advanced theoretical and practical sessions, culminating in an evaluation test of both tasting and theory knowledge.

The aim of the course is to promote the role of educators at a national and international level, giving them a high degree of specialised Sherry knowledge to ensure that they have the necessary qualifications to transmit their knowledge and skills around the world.
