7 days to go to International Sherry Week 2-8 November 2015

24 October 2015

It’s just 7 days to go to our global fiesta of sherry wines, and it will be even bigger and better than last year. There are already 450 events planned around the world in an A to Z of sherry locations, from Andalucia – of course - to Zoetermeer (Netherlands). There are tastings, food pairings, special menus and sherry-themed events all over Europe, the Americas and Asia.

New locations this year are China (Shanghai) and Israel (Tel Aviv).

Participants at restaurants, bars, wine shops, hotels and bodegas will be spreading the word about how delicious this southern Spanish wine tastes, and how perfectly it matches with a wide variety of dishes, from cheese and olives, to meat, fish, seafood, game, and desserts.

The emphasis this year is on pairing with food. Highlights include special tastings in Chicago of the award-winners from the U.S. National Sherry Cocktail Competition with a matching tapas dish, a special sherry pairing menu in Shanghai, and tastings and tapas in Miraflores in Peru.

So far Spain is leading the pack on number of events planned, as it should be of course. The UK is in second place, with nearly 100 events planned, and the US is not far behind with 80+ events.

During the week a lucky group of more than 20 wine bloggers will be sent samples of sherry wines for two tastings which will be live on Twitter. A general introduction to Sherry Wines will take place on Monday November 2nd at 19h CET and another on Tueday November 3rd also at 19h featuring only Palo Cortado. Anyone can follow – just use #SherryTT.

If you’re still plotting your event, register it on now on the global map, isherryweek.com.  Use our site to get inspiration and ideas, including recipes, pairing ideas and cocktail suggestions.

WINE TOURISM DAY

Coinciding with International Sherry Week, European Wine Tourism Day (6-8 November) will bring visitors from all over the world to the Sherry Triangle, where many bodegas will have open-doors days, allowing wine-lovers to explore the ‘cathedrals’ where these wines are blended using the age-old solera system.
