Jerez de la Frontera, 31 May 2026 – Within the framework of VINOBLE, institutional representatives from Porto (Portugal), Samos (Greece), Marsala (Italy), the Vins Doux Naturels regions of southern France, and Jerez signed today the Declaration of the Historic Fortified Wines of Europe, a document that recognizes the universal value of vine and wine culture as instruments of connection, dialogue, and cooperation between territories.

The event, held at the Palacio de Villavicencio, brought together authorities, industry professionals, and media representatives, highlighting the cultural, historical, and economic importance of fortified wines in the European context.

The Declaration signed by the four regions states that:

  • The traditional practice of fortification, developed over centuries and with its own singularities in each territory, constitutes not only an oenological technique of great value for producing high-quality wines, but also a living cultural heritage passed down from generation to generation.
    • This know-how forms an essential part of the identity of communities that have historically been open to the world through the wine trade.
    • The signatory regions share the will to enhance these centuries-old oenological techniques, the wines they produce, and the cultural elements associated with them.
    • They also express their intention to strengthen cooperation between territories and to collaborate in safeguarding and transmitting this traditional knowledge as instruments of dialogue, cohesion, and international projection.

With this signature, the European regions producing historic fortified wines consolidate a stable space for collaboration that aims to reinforce the presence of these wines in major international forums, promote joint projects, and contribute to the preservation of a unique oenological heritage.

The Regulatory Council of the Wines of Jerez highlighted the significance of this milestone, which positions VINOBLE as a privileged setting for encounter, cooperation, and the defence of the singularities of Europe’s wine heritage.
